One of the most ambitious new works of the fest, A Prayer for the Infidel takes place in 1960s San Francisco amid a backdrop of social unrest. Lazaro, former participant in Castro’s revolution, reunites with his childhood friends Clio and Zeke (involved to varying degrees in the Civil Rights Movement) to report on the events surrounding Black Panther Huey Newton’s murder trial. Lazaro is writing a book about revolutions, “the people who lead them” and the ones “who fall victim to them.” As the play progresses, we learn that Lazaro was both. A Prayer For The Infidel is an excellent look at a turbulent time in America's history. The entire cast is excellent under the direction of Kimba Henderson, but BERNADETTE SPEAKES and JANTONIO BAGUE' absolutely kill it! Make sure you get to see this as there are only two shows left!... full review

In the late 60s, after you've lived your life as though the personal was political, how do you begin to separate them? And can you? While her play takes a while to fully grapple with its theme, Kimba Henderson is helped by a fine cast and strong performances, especially from Jantonio Bague and Bernadette Speakes as her leads, Derrex Brady's simmering Black Panther and Raphael Corkhill's hyper-active hippie.... full review

Kimba Henderson's writing is top-notch. This story uncovers our unwillingness at times to follow through with our beliefs even when there are consequences to them. All the performers really connected with their character and added to the vibe of the 60's era. From the music to the radio feed I felt transported back to the 60's. Enjoyed the play because of the excellent acting of the cast. Each character had an individual voice, thus making their journey to find forgiveness, redemption, truth, faith, peace, and love more meaningful. The pacing of the play kept me interested in the outcome of the characters.... full review

A PRAYER FOR THE INFIDEL was an exciting, entertaining, well written and very well acted snap shot of the revolutionary aspects of life in 1968 in the Haight Ashbury section of San Francisco. It dramatized the confusion and tumult of the times with real characters from those who were dissatisfied with FIDEL CASTRO to those for and unsure of the militant stance of the BLACK PANTHERS. It made excellent use of music of the period as well as depicting conflicts between African Americans and white Americans... full review
