The shows themes resonate whether you’ve heard of Nahui Olin or not.
Thoughtful, educational, and heartfelt. Fringe is best when it introduces audiences to voices and lives they might never have encountered otherwise, and this show is an example of that.
Also, the resemblance she has to the woman, especially in certain images is really spooky and cool to watch her inhabit. I think it’s worthy of exploring in more detail if they decide to continue developing it.
What I didn't like
I always say a bigger budget would have made for more theatrical possibilities obviously but at the end of the day, story is key and they achieved that with no complaints.
My overall impression
A very engaging performance by Virginia. One of my favorite things about Fringe is discovering stories I knew absolutely nothing about before walking into the theater.
I Am Nahui Olin was one of those shows.
Virginia introduces audiences to the life of Mexican artist, poet, and intellectual Nahui Olin with passion, conviction, and an obvious admiration for her. What could have felt like a history lesson instead becomes a personal story about a woman determined to live life on her own terms and Virginia presented that beautifully.
