About the Project

  • A freshly out young queer man goes for his first testing at an STD clinic after being pressured into an orgy by an older fling. He’s terrified, but through the kindness of strangers, he’s able to overcome the things that weigh on him most. F3 is a one-act exploring consent influenced by power, POZ-phobia/internalized homophobia/transphobia, sexual health/education, sex work, and drug abuse amongst other issues facing the queer community. From the inner wonderings I have when I get check ups for my sexual health at the AIDS Healthcare foundation in Long Beach. Every time I’m there, there is an unspoken communal anxiety felt by each unique person at the clinic. I always glance around at the other patients, wondering about their lives. What reasons they’re at the clinic for. Where they’re from. The love they experience. The wounds they suffer through. Most of all, if they’re as embarrassed or as nervous as me. This is what I wanted to be the main focus of this show; how empathy and honesty for one another can guide us through the terrors of our lonely desires.
