Mod's Medical Miracles

Where to begin. The driving force behind Mod's is the jaunty madcap dynamic between the show's three characters, aptly named Mod, Maude, & Odd. Their hapless navigation of medical curiosa is both endearing & engaging, asking the audience to participate in a few interactive demonstrations themselves (there was a barefoot at one point & it wasn't a performer's). Beyond bumbling medical dissertations & long-held sibling head-butting between Mod & Maude, I was impressed by a clever use of shadow puppetry (& regular puppetry) that helped bridge scenes together & establish a dramatic underpinning that pays off in the final act. If you missed this at Fringe, I hope to see it come back around for another run.... full review

This show was so intensely stylized, and brilliant executed. The set design, costume design, and shadow puppetry alone make it a must see show. This is classic clown that is really well-executed. Simple, fun games that make the show feel dangerous. Great show.... full review

Visually stunning, tightly rehearsed, silly, creepy, delightful clowning. This production is just SO whole-ass: the soundtrack is incredible, the set design was outrageously polished, the lighting was perfect, the costumes and frickin PUPPETRY. Aye aye aye. With a unique use of storytelling and a clever script, this show mixes puppetry and shadow puppetry, with strong characterizations in an immersive experience! The costumes and set are so fun and you can tell they put a lot of focus and attention into the props and details. This is a MUST SEE show. It is in all ways completely EXCELLENT, and easily the best show I've seen at this year's festival. In terms of the vibe, it's a campy and classic femme 3 Stooges medical horror comedy -- and it is so well done. It has incredibly intentional stagecraft, blocking, costuming; creative use of sound, shadow puppets, and some physical puppetry. I don't want to give any spoilers because there are several delightful reveals; this is a show to walk in knowing nothing and let it take you away into the make believe. I loved it, the one with the head injury was so committed to the character. They all were amazing but she had me laughing the whole time with her little voice too. So imaginative and interesting. I loved the world they created and committed to. Wow.... full review
