So so well done. So refreshing to see something so put together at a festival full of lots of scrappy and rough-around-the-edges work. (I love that stuff too, but this was a real treat). You can tell a lot of love, and a lot of people’s talent, ware put into this piece and it shows.
Also, as a major bouffon fan, I loved Odd. What a GREAT bouffon character, played so well by Hanna, and so compelling. Every time she was on stage the audience was glued to her.
I could totally see this as a running sitcom and would watch an entire season.
What I didn't like
The show did start late and thus ended up running late — so if you are on a time crunch or seeing shows back to back, beware! Worth cancelling all other plans to see this one though.
My overall impression
This is a MUSTSEE show. It is in all ways completely EXCELLENT, and easily the best show I’ve seen at this year’s festival. In terms of the vibe, it’s a campy and classic femme 3 Stooges medical horror comedy — and it is so well done. It has incredibly intentional stagecraft, blocking, costuming; creative use of sound, shadow puppets, and some physical puppetry. I don’t want to give any spoilers because there are several delightful reveals; this is a show to walk in knowing nothing and let it take you away into the make believe. Immersive, delightful, tightly performed, surprising, silly, and incredibly satisfying narratively. I loved it all!
