The way she bounces from silly schtick to revealing layers of herself for everyone in this intimate theater space to see is mindblowing.
The show is well-directed and paced and rides the line between clichés and breaking the genre very well.
Each time another classic Broadway leading lady ballad begins, we know we’re in for a treat with Kelly steering the ship. This is hard to do as we’ve all heard renditions of these songs hundreds of times.
What I didn't like
Nothing!
My overall impression
Rosie’s Turn does the thing most solo shows only dream of—it provides belly laughs, surprises, goosebumps, and yes, tears. Kelly Krauter is a force to be reckoned with as she nails the vaudevillian-washed-up-cabaret-singer comedy genre, while also delivering moments of human drama that are profoundly moving. Her INCREDIBLE singing comes as a generous surprise — what starts as a campy retelling of a tale we may be somewhat familiar with, then reveals itself to be something truly new as the whole thing is turned on its head, and delivered with the highest level of technical skill, like it’s easy for her. The Fringe is very lucky to have this show as a part of their season.
