All the performers in this show are very talented. The actors who do multiple roles have clearly thought out each one of them and, no matter the scenario, they are fully committed to their characterizations, as are those who play only one role. The show is fast-paced and highly energetic. I really appreciate that because I’ve seen a few shows in LA where the pacing kills the comedy. They are many surprises throughout the performance including unexpected musical numbers, parodies of well-known TV shows and a painting (yes, that’s what I said), an improv set, an audience participation piece and some incredible singing. The costumes are also terrific and each character is presented in a unique outfit. Sometimes, simply donning a wig offers up a whole new persona. Everything is tied together with an insane throughline that’s a reflection of many things happening in today’s society. And it all makes sense! My wife and I had lots of fun watching this.
What I didn't like
I wouldn’t say I didn’t like something, but I didn’t get some of the jokes. I think that’s more a reflection of not understanding certain Gen Z references because I’m older. But, even if I didn’t get the joke, that doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy watching the whole build-up and performances surrounding it!
Not related to the show at all, LACC or Fringe need to put up more signage to lead audiences to the theater. It was a bitch to find it, and we weren’t the only ones who thought that as many people were wandering around the campus, searching for the venue. Luckily, we arrived early and didn’t miss the start of the show.
My overall impression
A highly skilled, energetic group of comedic performers present a crazy, apocalyptic variety show filled with sketches, music, singing, dancing and even a little bit of improv and audience participation. A very entertaining fifty-minute show.
