The actors were amazing! (Cast from Thursday June 18th). Believable and grounded. I was attached to every teen; I wish I could help them. At first glance one may judge the girls’ mothers for not being “better” parents, but the playwright and actors make it clear that they are making decisions based on survival, not out of love.
I thought the mirrored set was a nice touch. It’s always interesting to see what people come up with for Fringe.
What I didn't like
Not sure. Is there a way to make teenage pregnancy and policies about women and children less depressing? :-)
My overall impression
This show is a poetic version of Scarred Straight (but for teenage pregnancy as opposed to prison). Two Sides of the Same Coin shows us how we live similar lives even when from different backgrounds. The girls learn that these similarities will help them through, and the differences make them unique. Hopefully we adults will keep this in mind in our own lives.
