Written, Performed, Directed, Designed & Original Music by Shahin Sayadi
Ritual Music to Cure a Lover is the story of today’s Iran — youth rising up against their fathers’ choices. It is the story of love overcoming hate and light destroying darkness.
In this timely gripping one-man play, a young man battles his father’s traditions. Through reimagined mythological figures drawn from Persian poetry, Shahin Sayadi seamlessly transforms into multiple characters, weaving inter-generational voices into a panoramic portrait of a family divided by tradition and love. The play builds to a visceral Zaar exorcism ceremony that unearths long-buried family secrets and unleashes love’s power to confront hate and darkness.
Quote from Shahin Sayadi:
“Ritual Music to Cure a Lover is my story as an Iranian. Through myth, poetry, and raw emotion, I explore the pain and the certainty that light will destroy darkness in families torn between tradition and love.”
