The staging was dramatic and sparse, but very dynamic! The set pieces became an integral support system and were used in very creative manners to support the story…. The single chair took on several personalities over the span of the show, with a near human personality during one of the most dramatic sections of the story!
What I didn't like
The character transitions and set up during the early sections of the play could be just a bit clearer, which would help the audience to follow the storyline throughout the duration. I don’t think it’s a matter of writing, that part is all solid. I believe it comes down to a bit slower pace and clarity in speech when the characters are initially introduced.
My overall impression
This show really transported me to another time and place! Shahin has found an awesome way to present the myths, fables and true stories of his home and some of its history as metaphor and drama. There is an ancient spirit of storytelling at the core of this production, with ritual and belief driving the narrative and action forward.
