A musical that felt very Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Rachel Bloom coded. Songs were comical and advanced the plot! The comedy was character based and strong. The world felt bigger than a one person play. The props and projections made the world more immersive. Very easy to engage with and leave happy.
What I didn't like
Hear me out – what if she quit the show. She didn’t have to perform for us anymore. She wants to be a comedian, but maybe she needs to quit looking for others’ approval and find true self acceptance. I liked the ending – just an alternate!
My overall impression
Quitting is a deeply humiliating experience but it can also mean liberation. The deeply American belief of job-led identity is thrown on the floor, stomped on, sang at, and thrown out of a plane. A job is just a job, and quitters have the power to quit anything, even parts of themselves – there’s a certain beauty in that.
