I loved how Stefan starts the show, naked with his thoughts, vulnerable, available, sincere and so very funny. So much of the show within the show is relatable and Stefan has such a dynamic, profound, grounded presence along with expert writing and a beautiful singing voice, that draws you in and off you go on the ride. And what a ride!
What I didn't like
Stefan made a funny comment on the grandness of the theater…I forget his words but it’s like ‘one big long theater’… so maybe he could explore doing the show at other venues so all of the audience can see all of him all at the same time. For the record, everything worked for me!
My overall impression
Ahhh….the solo show journey…How to write a solo show? What do you say? What questions do you ask? Do you join a solo show class? Please the teacher with witty answers to his questions? Do you just say f-it, I’m going to go to Peru and let the ayahuaysca do the writing for me? Maybe I’ll be original with how I break the fourth wall and talk to the audience. Perhaps I’ll find my show in their expressions and reactions? Should I sing?
Yes! ALL OF THEABOVE! Stefan Marks brilliantly weaves a solo show within a solo show. Powerful, engaging, funny, sad, pathetic at times, joyful at others, Marks is electric and such a master in his storytelling. Gut punch at the end even if you suspect it’s coming. Had the audience destroyed….in a good way. Loved it!
