solo show
What do you get when you take a White Older MAN and watch him try to create a solo show? I'd say you get an honest peek at his soul. From the start, the fourth wall is broken and Stefan Marks engages with the audience, almost as if explaining the difficulties of creating a show that contains not only truthful moments, but also a clear beginning, middle and end.
His performance style mixes conversation with awkward glances and actions with self-deprecating humor, and painful recollections. And for an added bonus, he throws in some singing and guitar playing.
All this makes for a deeply resonant solo show. ...

A rollercoaster ride where the ending was the fast descent into an emotional puddle. The connection Stefan made with the audience was immediate and brought you into the artistic mindset. ...

Stefan Marks’s “My One Woman Show” gets you comfortable, then shares the pain, and then releases you from it. (Since Marks is confronting real pain, one hopes that the play also releases him from that pain too.)
The premise of the play is that he has failed as yet to come up with a one-person show, and he is bringing the audience into the difficulty of making one. He is especially bedeviled by creating a beginning. He doesn’t seem to be sure what he wants to say, or how to say it. Marks takes us with him through the false starts, the doubts, and the exploration and testing of ideas, speaking to the audience, telling us a story while living out the story at the same time. He is discovering what he wants to say and how to say it in re...

Stefan Marks has done it again- further raising the bar on his work. Hands down the best solo show I've ever seen. If you get the chance to see this show, you will laugh, cry, and never look at solo shows the same way again. Honest acting, writing, great directing choices and lots of surprises. A must see! ...

Genius show! Loved it. It's the best show I've ever seen at the HF. Superb acting and writing and you are on the edge of your seat all the way with no idea of where it is going to go next. It has everything and is at turns hilarious and deeply moving. So brilliant to see this calibre of work at the fringe. Thank you Stefan Marks!...

My wife and I saw the Stefan Marks play, “My One Woman Show (the search for a truthful moment) on June 27th. It was stellar! The writing, acting and overall performance was VERY entertaining, emotional and honest. Stefan has really created something unique, heartfelt and worth everyone’s attention. He holds your attention from the first word to the last.
We thoroughly enjoyed this show and we HIGHLY recommend seeing a future performance!...

This show is brilliant, unforgettable, and necessary. It just doesn't get better than this. Seriously. In a world of mediocrity and lies, it felt so good (cathartic) to experience something excellent and true. Stefan Marks is a rare talent, deftly writing, directing, and starring in this masterpiece. Extraordinary. No doubt those of us who were lucky enough to be in the audience were changed for the better. Can't think of a higher purpose for a piece of art. Bravo!...

Extremely well done. Command of scripted work to appear improvised is hard to do. Humor, honesty and vulnerability is what theatre should be about. Marks masters it....

How do you find truthful moments, and is it possible to string them together and make a life? My One Woman Show (The Search For A Truthful Moment) is a remarkable play, a journey really, that hits its target many times.
A journey which starts out showcasing the frustrations of today's actors, passing through memories happy, sad, strange and frustrating until we reach a truthful moment.
The writing is excellent, the acting exceptional, the directing superb.
Stefan Marks is one of L.A.'s most gifted writers, directors and stage performers, but it is his dedication to those three crafts and his attention to detail that make his performances stand out. Is it possible to find truth when most of us are untruthful? This show should be given ...
