What I liked

Rachel brings such warmth, vulnerability, heartbreak, and quirkiness to the stage that it is impossible not to fall in love with her. Her performance is captivating from start to finish, balancing razor-sharp comedic timing with moments of breathtaking emotional depth. I laughed, I cried, and I often found myself doing both at the same time.

Shayne’s direction is deeply creative and inspired. The inventive use of music to evoke the mother’s presence is both clever and emotionally resonant, while the whimsical filing cabin sequences provide some of the show’s funniest and most profound moments. Equally striking is the lighting design and how it shifts seamlessly between colorful fever dream and cold, stark reality. Every theatrical element feels purposeful and works in harmony to create a world that is imaginative, funny and deeply human.

What I didn't like

My only criticism is that I wasn’t ready for it to end. I would have happily spent longer in this beautifully imagined world.

My overall impression

Writer/performer Rachel Austin and director Shayne Eastin have created something truly special with The Do-Over: a poignant, witty, and deeply moving exploration of grief, memory, longing, and loss.
