I really liked the interplay with the cabinet. It reminded me of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” in the best ways. I appreciated how she “respected” the childlike aspects of the plot devices without treating them ironically. These magical aspects were real, and her involvement was sincere.
What I didn't like
No notes. Great experience on its own. I would love to see more, though. So, if Rachel can ever expand it, I think the concept is ripe for an even longer production.
My overall impression
Such a heartfelt and hilarious show. As someone who also lost his mother, I can 100% relate to the “worst day of your life” scenario and the desire to go back and “do over” your final day with your mother. Rachel Austin nails it. It’s as if she went into my mind and put it on stage. It was a pleasantly cathartic story, and she gave a dynamite performance.
