What I liked

The entire concept of this show, which I heard was first mounted 10 years ago is brilliant! And honestly, why not turn an awful movie into a musical, hey, it worked well for Xanadu, right?

On the performance side, major props must go to Megan Crockett (as the Preacher). She brought the house down and left it there for good measure. Drop mic! Additionally, a show like this allows a large cast moments to shine. Specifically, they get to interact with the audience, and to the Producers’ credit, the Cat’s Crawl is an ideal venue.

One last shout-out must go to Nancy Dobbs Owen’s outstanding choreography! With so many bodies in motion, their movements were a highlight.

What I didn't like

Any bits of confusion I have are more attributed to the actual writing of the movie. A question though, am I correct to assume that every character from the movie made it’s way to this show? Were all of them 100% necessary?

And on a technical note, at times at the top of the show, the music was way too loud! It was virtually impossible to hear the cast. Microphones would benefit this show immensely.

My overall impression

This might very well be the most foppish musical to hit the Fringe! And for those like myself, who come in knowing nothing about the original source material, you’ll do just fine. Taken from the “best” worst movie ever made, this show is chock full of characters, songs, dances and a never-ending supply of camp.

Poor little Joshua (Tiffany Asta) just cannot get his family to believe him about the true occupants in Nilbog, where they’ve moved. It’s only with Grandpa Seth’s (Eric Gellar) help that Joshua can save his Mom (Rebecca Larsen), Dad (Joe Hernandez-Kolski) and sister, Holly (Sarah Schulte) from Creedence (Samantha Barrios) and her goblin minions.

Add in some lustful teenage boys and this rumpus makes for an out-of-control, laugh-out-loud fun fest!
