Too many great performances to mention all of them, but here are my favorites. Ryker Chavez as the delightfully clueless boyfriend oozed teenage angst and burgeoning masculinity. Sarah Schulte ruled as every 80’s boy’s fantasy, equal parts feisty and feminine. Rebecca Larsen’s layered performance makes Diana more than just another mother, but a true anchor of the show. Tiffany Asta’s spunky performance as Joshua turns a potentially annoying son into the hero we didn’t know we needed.
What I didn't like
The sound system was a little sketchy. I hope it’s something they can work out, but it didn’t deter me from recommending the show.
My overall impression
What a weird, wonderful, wild ride! Turning movies into musicals has been a tradition for years but crafting a cleverly odd and campy musical like Nilbog! out of one of the worst movies ever made should be the standard of Fringe festivals from here on out. The cast was fully committed to this strange journey, and we are all the better for it. The music was catchy and the choreography fully captured the bizarre world of Nilbog! If delightful and peculiar are your thing, I can’t recommend Nilbog enough!
