At the end of World War II, Japan’s ambassador to the Soviet Union, Naotake Sato, is tasked to get Joseph Stalin to negotiate a peace for Japan. The one issue, he has no terms to give and Russia has no interest in helping. With a sarcastic secretary, a hostile and naive ministry, and Russian leaders determined to party, Sato finds himself at the center of futility and absurdity. He must balance the loyalty to his station, with the slow collapse of his mental health and career. This is a story for anyone who was given a task by their boss, that they knew wasn’t possible but had to fulfil anyway.
