What a fun ride! The turn at the beginning was a great hook, although I do feel as though the play did lose some of the childish innocence which makes this SUCH a hilarious satire around ACT 2. It got a little House of Cards-y minus all the sexy stuff, although plenty was implied. Especially about hands stuff. Overall, I think the ensemble had so much chemistry and Reid Emmons really stood out, playing not one, but two characters with such deep history and richness, all while walking a tightrope of clownery and tomfoolery only a skilled physical actor could pull off with emotional payoff. Bravo....

Fun and funny take on politics that reminded me of classic political satires such as Election and Veep (with a twist ;-). The characters and performances felt totally lived in and it was compelling to watch the conflicting personalities bouncing off each other. I have seen the other two versions of “Vote for Tom Ryan”, and what stood out to me is that: acts 1 and 2 lean more heavily into comedy, making greater use of the political satire aspect. In contrast, the third act moves at a slower pace and feels more reflective from the character’s POV, adding depth to the story’s conclusion as most of the “players” have to finally confront the consequences of their actions and consider if there are lessons to be learned. I believe the third act gives the play a stronger sense of closure, bringing the story to a full circle and completing the arcs of most characters. ...
