What I liked

There are so many silly bits in this show. The only one I will spoil is an accordion rendition of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself,” which comes out of nowhere. I won’t spoil one of the most creepy, simple props I’ve ever seen. Jackie does a great job of making the audience feel safe while also creating moments of unease. It’s a difficult balance that lesser performers completely ignore. This some of the most tactful crowd work you’ll ever. You get the sense that this level of social awareness and emotional intelligence is kind of driving Jackie crazy; it serves as the basis for the show’s pivot into horror.

What I didn't like

It’s easy to imagine a version of the show that’s scarier, that turns the ghost on the audience instead of Jackie’s psyche. Likewise, the show could be even sillier by further satirizing the horror. The show is a bit of a musical and it really will come down to what notes Jackie wants to play.

My overall impression

Hysterical has everything you could want from a clown show and the added wrinkle of psychological horror.
