Both the direction and actors leaning into farce and really going for it. In each scene you get caught up in the spontaneity of the acting and the outrageous characterizations of the actors, a true delight. From modern day handshakes, salsa dances and provocative posings, the scenes are hilarious and specific. The pacing of the piece is au courant for our attention spans. The whole production is replete with talent.
What I didn't like
The denouement felt a bit quick but it was enough of a button to walk away satisfied.
My overall impression
CHW Productions does a stellar job throughout all of their shows to maintain the ethos and fundamental essence of each respective “Classic” work. Tartuffe in 60 is no different, the story moves along in a fast clip, aided by delightful acting and direction. The barebones set and quirky costuming allow for the audience to intuit their imagination in to what seems to be a crowded familial estate. The truncated writing loses zero punch and keep the audience engaged. The 6/12 cast was very strong, translating the hilarity of the writing to the modern day. An hour throughly well spent.
