There is a very cool tech element of a live stream that is cast with a few second lag as a projection. At one point the most beautiful stage picture appeared and tripled the amount of performers infinity mirror style, each iteration of Diaz smaller in the background and working in a round of gesture.
What I didn't like
The writing needs some serious shaping and a stronger directorial hand would benefit this personal story that is only half told. Audience work floundered, unfortunately. Eg. If you’ve asked someone to be your mirror, and they consented, but you don’t actually use them as a mirror nor are they encouraged or moved to be your mirror, then why bother doing the bit at all? “Being the Perfect Woman” feels like we’re just skimming the surface of what this piece could be.
It is exciting to see people confident in their own skin suits, but when the makeup comes off and the wig is hung up, the performer’s posture and demeanor changes from confident to apologetic; this feels like a betrayal of theme.
