An overwhelmed wife and mother hides in her garage away from her own mid life crisis and her demanding family. Through discovering the real life story of the forgotten wife of the famous painter Matisse, can Anna find herself again? And can she rewrite the story of this forgotten artistic partner from one hundred years ago?
This show explores the struggle of one woman to carve out space to be creative while also being a good mother, wife and muse. Its an exploration of what it meant to be married to a genius, one hundred years ago and now. And how to find your own voice through parallels to a woman long dead who’s contribution to some of the greatest paintings of the 20 century has been buried for over a century. Through wry humor and lots of illicit smoking, Me & Mrs.Matisse explores reclaiming the female creative self. And what happens when your own family eat you alive.
