I came in a few minutes late and saw the actors holding scripts. I thought it was part of the show. Then as the story developed and I was immersed into the Turner family journey, I realized it was a stage reading. The acting — phenomenal. You could feel the bond and connection of the actors playing the Turners. Every single family member, and Abigail were excellent casting choices. The writing is tight and engaging. The acting and directing choices were full of intention and attention which created an historical emotionally immersive experience. I’m excited to see what is next for Dia Brown and Mammy is a Star.
What I didn't like
It was hard to arrive on time as the time switched from an 8:30pm start to an 8pm start and I was on the other side of the festival. Which ultimately, is a me problem.
My overall impression
The chemistry of the Turners is palpable. Lines are hit with precision and perfect timing.
