The beauty of live theatre is that no matter how many performances there are, the actor has every opportunity to continue to “improve” his execution, regardless of how good it may already be — which I have personally witnessed behind the scenes in this case over and over. This artist stops at nothing less than perfection, even while he well knows there’s no such thing.
My overall impression
Jared Keil, the writer and the performer of this one-man show, is a poet and a wordsmith. As an actor as well, in both theatre and film, he brings all of his talents at once to this project; I saw many audience members literally shaking their head when leaving the theatre after witnessing his ability to describe in such clear and poetic depth the intimate details of his internal and external life that brought him to this point. Surely, very few humans can — or even would — stand on a stage alone and invite the world to judge one’s every move, decision, and choice in that often painful gap between life and death.
