In London between the wars, when London is recovering from devastation, a small, unusual office opens its door.
The Bureau of Recollected Lives is not an ordinary detective agency. It does not hunt criminals or solve crimes. Instead, it asks: what happens when a person is no longer remembered?
At the heart of the play is Evelyn, who believes that how we look at the past can shape our present. Into her world arrives Sidney, recently demobilised from WW1. What begins as a job becomes an extraordinary journey of discovery.
The play moves between the London Bureau and landscape of Sidney’s childhood, rural Suffolk and life ‘below stairs’.
