I loved Jim’s sense of humor, and while I expected a lot of discussion about the music, there’s a lovely segment covering some interesting music theory, and more than a couple where Jim playfully “ruins” your favorite Christmas songs by pointing out some lyrics you may not even realize are there.
What I didn't like
I haven’t come up with anything yet, but Jim has always encouraged me in this section to push my memory and boundaries with my solo shows, so Jim, I hope you’re ready for me to find a challenge to issue you for this work going forward.
My overall impression
This is an absolute riot. Jim Blanchette is so funny, honest, conspiratorial, and passionate about caroling, even in the face of the 4 months of prep for 6 eeeeks fo work. I expected this to be far more musically inclined, more “holiday”, but the context and the stories of caroling prep, community, and favorite (and least favorite) caroling experiences makes for a wamr, and joyful romp. O come all ye audiences, to Happy Merry Joyous!
