I liked the complex relationship dynamics and the juicy messiness, love between the bandmates. A lot of great moments in the musical. I liked the two sets to separate dialogue scenes and the music. Everyone performing did a good job.
What I didn't like
The staging for the majority of the show was tough, blocking felt rigid and flat. More choreography for the concert part of the show is needed. Scenes where bandmates are confronting each other I just did not feel that the stakes were high enough. I was not fully invested for a lot of the show, and that’s why I say it can be so much more. Great moments in there, but we need, we beg, for a full good show. It needs to be reworked, polished so it can really shine. It’s probably a mix of re-writing, staging, chemistry building.
It was hard to hear a lot too.
I’m nervous about the potential AI use for this project. Pictures at the beginning that looked AI generated made me question if more AI was used (ex. songs, lyrics). I have a negative bias towards AI, so that ruined part of the experience for me, and maybe a disclaimer if AI was or was not used would be helpful. That is just me though.
My overall impression
A lot of heart was put into the performance. It is worth a watch, but it can be so much more.
