Many of the songs are peppy and energetic, and it’s fun watching the supporting cast react to the song being sung. The cast does a great job of conveying all the behind the scenes drama by way of facial expressions depending on who is singing and what is being sung. It’s worth watching multiple times to see how the cast interacts with each other during each number. It’s what I imagine watching a Fleetwood Mac show at the lowest would look and feel like!
What I didn't like
This isn’t necessarily the show’s fault, but the short length of the play causes some of the themes to feel hamfisted and the pacing way too fast. I would lament the removal of some of the themes, rather if the length was expanded and some of the themes would be given room to breathe, viewers would be allowed to let the emotions resonate more, as opposed to racing to the next theme to understand.
My overall impression
Harmony’s Edge touches on a lot of themes dear to a lot of people – love, rejection, loneliness, grief, sexuality, addiction, (in)fidelity, authenticity; and having to do all that in about an hour is an ambitious goal. Fortunately, not only does the play do it well, but also manages to do it in song! A wonderful cast of beautiful voices brings this play to life as well. Overall a great short play worth watching and sharing with friends and family.
