About the Project

Seven-year-old Jeremy is a world-class expert in “serious danger.” To stay safe, he maintains a meticulously cataloged notebook of 672… wait, 673 worries, ranging from spotted bananas and soggy socks to the terrifying prospect of shoe-sole-eating earthworms. While his mother, Ellie, does her best to support him, Jeremy’s rigid world is built on one simple rule: never take a risk.

That all changes when he meets Maggie. Maggie is a whirlwind in her own right – she doesn’t believe in skipping sidewalk cracks, slowing down for “caution,” or chewing every bite exactly 32 times before swallowing. During an afternoon of play, the very thing Jeremy fears most – a sudden, powerful gale – catches his unzipped parka and launches him into a whirlwind odyssey far from the comforting view of his wind dial.

What follows is a high-flying musical adventure across the far corners of the earth. Jeremy is forced to navigate the very scenarios he spent his life rehearsing for: racing across the frozen tundra with a team of sled dogs, being rescued from the deep by a narwhal, and outsmarting a crew of tropical pirates.

Through whimsical storytelling, a vibrant score, and imaginative movement, Jeremy Worried About the Wind explores the weight of childhood anxiety and the liberation found when we finally trade our lists for the unpredictable magic of the unknown. Jeremy discovers that the world isn’t just a place of danger – it’s a place where the fun finally begins.

Adapted from the children’s book by Pamela Butchart, Jeremy Worried About the Wind (the musical) is a Jeremy Richter effort.
