I loved this show. It's a beautiful, deeply moving piece with a thoughtful and meaningful script that explores important themes with honesty and compassion. The story is both impactful and exceptionally well told, and the performances are fantastic. This is the kind of show that stays with you long after you've left the theater.

A Pit of Hope is one of those plays that quietly stays with you long after you’ve left the theater. Vince Tula tells a deeply human story about immigration, identity, and belonging through an unexpected yet powerful lens, reminding us how easily both pit bulls and Latino communities are judged before they’re truly seen. If you love dogs, this is the show for you! A very sweet and somber show about two dogs in the shelter system from different perspectives, including the dogs'. I learned a lot about the shelter system and the stress that can lead to "bad" dogs. It made me want to volunteer!...

It’s bold to tackle our country’s decaying capitalist system through the local community of a dog shelter, and in other storytellers’ hands it could have missed the mark. But Pit of Hope does it so beautifully and wisely that it’s the only way this story could have been told. We’re shown a range of humanity in people and dogs, each drawing empathy by the actors pouring themselves into their carefully written roles and being unafraid to make strong choices guided by well-structured and creative staging; this stands proudly as an example of the best of theater in LA.
