What I liked
Kathy is a wonderful performer. A lot of the dialogue felt natural and unscripted which is a testament to her delivery. The use of props enhances the story, and there were several moments where I expected a really intense and dark scene, that was just a set up for a great joke. Bravo to all.
What I didn't like
Kathy did such a wonderful job creating tension, but whenever someone walked into the theater, the tension broke. I think for this show it would be smart to limit late seating.
My overall impression
An incredibly powerful story told with humor and remarkable insight. Kathy Westfield masterly tells the story of her life and her experiences with abuse through compassion and reflection, without ever overwhelming the audience. The show is simple, with minimal set or props, and yet I felt engaged with her story the entire time. There are several big laughs that she carefully sets up through misdirect, that balance the experience very well. As an abuse survivor, I walked away from this production feeling joyous and inspired by Kathy’s story.
