Joshua Chamberlain’s writing is so clever. I loved how he uses both Jack Kirby and Stan Lee’s voice overs to guide the story, to skip through exposition and to give us a very strong POV. I love how the way they recount the events is at times in conflict with how they each tell the story and from the way the audience experiences it, highlighting that there is my story, your story and the truth.
I loved the bookeneds.
The cast was so strong but I thought Leif Gantvroot and Bryan McKinley werre brilliant as Stan Lee and Jack Kirby
Reid Emmons as Ditko was also a stand out for me.
What I didn't like
A thing that could be improved in a future adaptation is to deepen Kirby and Stan Lee’s emotional arcs so they resonate deeper with a theme, at the moment this feels a bit too intellectual / historical and if was a bit more grounded to an emotional conflict between the men this would resonate even deeper
My overall impression
This is an extremely polished show that deserves a run beyond the Fringe. This is an excellently written and directed voice-y character piece with really fantastic performances. This is one of my favorite pieces this Fringe. Definitely a must see!
