“My Brother’s Room” is about putting people up on a pedestal, and the dangers that come with it. It’s about family, and the sacrifices we make to keep them happy. It’s about loving someone, but not knowing how to make them feel loved. It’s about humiliation and guilt, and the lies we tell to try and assuage it.
Carson doesn’t know what he’s doing after he graduates. He never knew his dad, he barely knew his brother. So when Bobby shows up needing a place to stay, he’s all to eager to take him at his word. Afterall, he’s heard such great things about him, and he has all kinds of cool stories. It’s not until Carson starts to emulate his brother’s ‘actions’ that the truth starts to come out.
