My overall impression
Turning beloved childhood cartoons into full breathing human characters must not have been an easy task but in Absolutely Filthy playwright Brendan Hunt, aided with a playful and committed cast, did exactly that. Brendan also stars at “the Mess” or Pig-Pen, and as such he is riveting. His nuanced performance of a man riddled with self-doubt and guilt, his biting and hilarious retorts, as well as his palpable need for the human connection he once shared are engrossing and to top it off he hula-hooped the whole time! I can’t hula hoop for one second. I digress. Shannon Nelson as “the Bereaved” or Sally stole my heart. Her face warm and lovely, with big open eyes draws you in and the moments between the Bereaved and the Mess were my favorites. This is truly a beautiful show and cannot be missed.
