Getting to play the triangle! I used to be a percussionist, so you have no idea how thrilled I was to be handed it. The audience interaction to backup her performance (I won’t spoil why the audience must, but it’s tied into the plot) is so fantastically directed by Molly in the midst of the show. Her characterization, charm, and improv in these audience exchanges is at the heart of the show. But also, having listened to the album since… there are some genuine bangers on there and Molly’s ability to hold your attention with what are essentially a cappella pop songs is remarkable! So so glad I made it to this show! I’ll be seeing it again in Edinburgh, for sure!
What I didn't like
Nothing.
My overall impression
Disturbing and funny, riding that beautiful comedic line of making the audience feel uncomfortable and then turning that discomfort into laughter. And the character Molly has created (a pop star version of herself) is so perfectly shallow and vapid, but Molly’s heart and charisma radiates from within this otherwise selfish character, which is very much supported by the generosity and patience she handles her audience with. An absolute blast of a show!
