Gretchen has such a command of her space and draws your attention so closely. As she spins this tale out, the most incredible thing about it is her ability to relate the escalating danger with such authenticity that you genuinely fear for her safety—even as you know she’s at least safe since she’s standing 10 feet from you. Her visuals add a layer of comedy and vivid experience that genuinely enhance the experience, and she interacts with them so flawlessly and timed perfectly!
There’s also a legitimately incredible balance of both joy and anger to her more informative segments, and a degree of additional vocal talent I wasn’t expecting that adds ENORMOUSLY to certain segments of the show.
I’m so glad I saw this in preview, because I’m going to be talking about this all Fringe.
What I didn't like
Zero notes.
My overall impression
This show is INCREDIBLE. Gretchen is a spellbinding, not-of-this-world performer. She is mesmerizing and authentic, and her passion and emotion connect with you and yank you full-force into her (insane, unnerving, and terrifying) story. The design, the visuals, the sounds, the humor, the multiple talents on display, the research… there is so much going on here, all blended so seamlessly, brilliantly, and energetically into a rapturous hour of theatre. A MUST-SEE this Fringe!
