About the Project
Duck Ugly is a solo show written and performed by Claire Thomasina J, with development and direction by Deana Barone. It is a strange tale about a little English girl who doesn’t quite fit. It is a weaving together of the surreal, the disturbing and the comedic get a peek into how a 6 year old sees the world. Amongst eleven different characters are her opinionated dog, her poetic and insane grandmother and her hilarious mother. We watch how Claire struggles to reconcile her fairy-tale world with the reality of growing up. She attempts to find her prince through a series of dating inappropriate men. A disastrous wedding, an ill-fated love affair and a job at Spearmint Rhino all lead her back to where she started.
