What I liked

Mozhdeh’s use of characters to drive the story were particularly effective. The visuals showing the lives lost in Iran as the struggles continue are gut wrenching. The segments where Mozhdeh only spoke in Farsi had great impact on the story of a stranger in a strange land.

What I didn't like

Even in a story of struggle and sadness, a few more moments of rare joy would really set off the tragedy more

My overall impression

Mozhdeh Rahmanzaei gives a very personal account of the personal struggles of an actor who is trying to grow in a country that severely limits creative endeavors. Reminiscent of the story of the graphic novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, her path through life is fraught with obstacles. As someone with extended family members that escaped from Iran after the Shah was deposed, it is sad but unsurprising how little has changed. A powerful and meaningful evening of theatre.
