This show is riddled with honesty and self evaluation. The audience is invited to take a peak at the human experience through the lens of the Roxana Baldovin expedition. Her testimony bares it all as she exposes all of the factors and decisions that have added up to who she has evolved into so far. Her transparent authenticity opens the door for audience members to consider if they are being 100% themselves on full blast or succumbing to the pessimism, ridicule, statistical odds and timorous thoughts that we are all offered by others and ourselves whether they were requested or unsolicited. MANIC is a trip into Roxy’s world, featuring glamorous burlesque, daddy issues, and a lifelong obsession with fame. Roxy has brought the voices in her mind to life with carefully cultivated comedic personas and they are here to entertain. Each character is very distinct, with enormous thought clearly put into their development. I loved the multimedia aspect—fitting, given Roxy’s music video directing experience. The staging was minimal but still had flair. It didn’t start until 14 minutes after showtime—but what else can we expect from an adhd diva?! To be fashionably late is only appropriate. I would love to see a version of the show that focused more on the art of confidence—from Roxy’s perspective, of course. It’s one of a few throug... full review
