What I liked

It was beautiful and powerful to see true nonbinary representation on the stage. Too often, those who do not fit into the gender binary are excluded or commodified. Vico stepped into the role as story teller to give a voice to those who haven’t had their stories told yet.
I saw the show on closing night, and there was a power outage in the tech booth. Vico stayed cool and calm, engaging with the audience and gave an impromptu talk about the show, more life stories, and some fun facts. They weren’t fazed, and didn’t miss a beat getting back into the show once the tech issue was resolved. An incredible performer.

What I didn't like

There wasn’t a single moment a didn’t enjoy. Even the unexpected tech issues were a good time because Vico and the crew handled it so smoothly.

My overall impression

Funny. Heartfelt. Real. Vico Ortiz shared their life story about growing up not fitting into the gender binary. Through monologues, music, comedy, sexiness, silliness, and, of course, drag, they brought the audience to laughter and tears. Themes of gender, sexuality, race, religion, family, and self discovery weave intricate threads together to create the fabric of Vico’s show. Then, they flaunted that fabric of their life across the stage. A well deserved standing ovation.
