NGL I was a little skeptical about the format of a solo show, (but nonetheless excited to see someone from screen I admire so much) and the show did not disappoint. It blew me away. I cried twice, I laughed more than I can count, and I walked away needing to process (my feelings, my memories, my very identity).
Rise of a King is a story of transness, of humanity, of family, of finding yourself. It is a comedy show, too, but it is also so much more than that. I felt so inspired, and in awe, and SEEN. Some of the stories were so incredibly relatable, it felt like a page from my book. I walked away from this show feeling more human than when I walked in. Thank you for this gift.
What I didn't like
Literally nothing could make this show better.
Even the tech issues we ran into managed to enrich the experience.
My overall impression
Easily the best show I’ve ever seen. Vico delivered a much needed, vulnerable, hilarious, inspiring, and engaging performance. Beautifully written and performed, it is chock full of queer wisdom and clearly a labor of love.
