My first amazement was the layered dialogue: five young characters talk over each other, yell, carry multiple conversations at once. It was riveting and never messy. It was like a magic trick. The story begins in such a real place: I felt like I knew all of these characters and I was transported back to school days. Memories swimming in my mind as I watched. Halfway through, you’re taken into another realm, a liminal space that reminded me of Beetlejuice. The eponymous cat could be his pet?
What I didn't like
I’m just waiting for the movie adaptation :)
My overall impression
Mandy Rubeli’s new play is a beautiful, funny, and honest work. It’s a wonderful orchestra exploring youthful confusions, life, and death.
