Earth, Wind and Car Fire is what the solo show art form is all about and Janora Mcduffie a shining light. If you love one woman shows, hate one woman shows, ever thought about doing a solo show or have ever done a solo show – this is the one to see this year at Hollywood Fringe! It’s raw, it’s honest, and before you go, oh noooo… am I gonna cry? I don’t want to go to a sad show–OMG this show is bursting with JOY! (I did cry fyi, and l laughed so hard). Janora is not only charismatic, but a gifted performer. (And another fyi, nope, never met or heard of her before coming to this show. I was invited last minute by a friend, and so glad I left my house on a Sunday night. I went home uplifted). I will confess, I’m someone that loves experimental, immersive theater and this show was a reminder of the power in simplicity, the power of honest storytelling. It never wandered. Janora is in command of her instrument, she had a clear message and it was very well crafted and directed.
What I didn't like
Omg stop. I loved the show! Just go already.
My overall impression
This show is a celebration of life! In all it’s complexities, how we reconcile contradictions…those seemingly disparate, messy or contrary parts of our existence, how we choose to face challenges… to our perceptions, values and even our own mortality. It’s about self-acceptance and love, both for our own selves and and for others.
