#messy (the brazilian hour)
SARAH LAZARUS certified reviewer June 08, 2025
Julia shows us that we should embrace our inner mess! She takes us on an emotional rollercoaster of her life as an immigrant and the struggles she faced on her journey towards becoming an artist in the United States. Julia tells her story through musical numbers and recollections about her dating life, trauma, loss, and her childhood. This was a very entertaining, compelling, and relatable story. I highly recommend checking it out!... full review

Julia Melim's #Messy is a gorgeous combination of honesty, bravery, vulnerability, and vibrancy with a glorious slice of witty comedy. Julia bares her soul in this truthful tale of what it truly means to be messy, and accepting that all parts of ourself are beautiful, no matter how messy one's life might be. In fact, it's the messy parts that make us whole! Written with sincerity and depth, and with a healing, memorable ending in which we as audience members released our fears along with Julia, was the perfect show to conclude Hollywood Fringe 2025 with. Thank you Julia for your openness, your engaging storytelling, and your passion for life.... full review

What a beautiful “messy” journey Julia takes us on…her raw honest vulnerability combined with master storytelling and a multitude of clever styles and changes to show us her own messy made us all feel a lovely camaraderie with her…as Julia reminded us we are all not ok…and that’s ok! ... full review

I loved the message of embracing our inner #Messy. Life is messy, it's not always perfect and striving for perfection sets us all up for failure/disappointment. I loved that Julia encouraged us all to be messy, do the best that you can do that given moments and it's okay to not have it all figured out. It is okay to be #Messy. ... full review

Julia is charismatic, charming, and vulnerable in this hour blend of standup comedy, music, storytelling, and theater. She has a strong command of the room, a warm presence, and invites the audience into her inner world of messiness and vulnerability in a surprising and unexpected way. Love the use of the backstage metaphor, the emotional raw moments, and the witty jokes.... full review
