What I liked
The repetition was effective yet surprising. The script managed to set my expectations and subvert them at the same time. The commitment to craft is off the charts. Jamar completely transforms into each character, creating a new world for each one who finds himself trapped in a vicious cycle.

My overall impression
What a powerhouse performance! Jamar is a studied performer and his character work is impeccable. He takes a narrative that many may try to sweep under the rug and breathes new life into it. With crisp structure and seamless transitions, Black and Blue reframes and humanizes what it means to live in the skin of a Black man in the United States. He tackles this from multiple perspectives, each one more surprising than the next. It’s a brave, bold look at a fraught situation. In the capable hands of Jamar Gilbert the show triumphs.
