Powerful show about Latino family life with exceptional singing and just a dash of magical realism. The costuming and dancing are amazing; the dialogue felt a bit under-rehearsed but this is ultimately the kind of timeless classic where it doesn't really matter. Those songs and choreography are going to stick with me for a long time! If you're looking for a primarily Spanish-language musical at the Fringe, this is the one for you!...

The show doesn’t pretend to be anything. From the start we are told this is a typical story. The charm of the show doesn’t come from the story though, but from the way the actors made a typical story be retold from a Latino perspective through some fun and original musical numbers. Rather than being discouraged from performing in a small space, the actors take advantage of the space to create an interactive experience with the audience. My favorite part was when the Taxman shows up. Rather than being the stereotypical intimidating man who demands the money, we realize that he is not the villain. Instead, the true villain is revealed to be the generational trauma that many Latina women have endured from machismo. ...

This show centered Latine voices with that audience in mind. It used Spanish music and dialogue unapologetically without providing translations which spoke volumes about who this play is for-- welcoming in Latines far and wide to experience their culture, their language, and their story. If you don't speak Spanish, there will be lyrics, jokes, and nuances missed and that's ok! It's good to step into the Cuarto Dorado and experience it anyway as a guest....

Cuarto Dorado is a spectacular musical that celebrates Latin culture, family, and love. The musical numbers were upbeat and catchy, the dynamic within the ensemble characters in this bar is lively, yet it doesn't shy away on touching challenging interpersonal dilemma, and there was alot of heart put into the show. I feel like all those involved resonated with the piece and were place in the position to thrive creatively....

Cuarto Dorado is a wonderful and magical play that embraces Latin culture with heart, art, and passion. From the start, the play takes the audience to a rich, magical realm where culture, music, and stories come together in perfect harmony. The affection between family members is one of the most powerful parts of the drama. You can sense it in every scene, in what they say, what they don't say, and what they do. That type of love is so intense that it goes past the stage and into your heart. It made me think of the strong love that ties my family together no matter what life throws at us....

This is “la storia typica.” It could be your family and friend, or the neighbors down the street. The Reyes family has fallen on hard times, but it is their love for each other that pulls them through it. From the moment La Bruja walks on stage, she draws you in with a wave of her hand. This is a musical like none other. You won’t find the ballad or up tempos of the past. This is the music that is played in the backyard and garages of many homes in the barrio. You’ll laugh, cry, jeer, and cheer. This is Cuarto Dorado, the bar of the barrio!...
