The actress’ that played the 2 Margarita’s were phenomenal. It’s also a very witty show. Ceci and the Taxman had the room echoing with audience laughter.
What I didn't like
I really liked the way the story was structured. Having the mysterious character of La Reina narrate the acts was a nice way to settle in. I will say that the conflict resolution felt a bit too quick. After the mother’s sudden death, it felt like forgiveness was granted too quick from all the characters.
My overall impression
The show doesn’t pretend to be anything. From the start we are told this is a typical story. The charm of the show doesn’t come from the story though, but from the way the actors made a typical story be retold from a Latino perspective through some fun and original musical numbers. Rather than being discouraged from performing in a small space, the actors take advantage of the space to create an interactive experience with the audience. My favorite part was when the Taxman shows up. Rather than being the stereotypical intimidating man who demands the money, we realize that he is not the villain. Instead, the true villain is revealed to be the generational trauma that many Latina women have endured from machismo.
