To elaborate on the bilinguality a bit more, even though about 70% of the words spoken are in Spanish, I’d say about 70% of the plot is in English. So if you’re solely fluent in English, you’ll be able to follow what’s happening but you’ll miss out on the bulk of the fun parts. Vice versa for Spanish!
Personally, I speak Spanish at a CEFR B1-B2 level ( https://rm.coe.int/CoERMPublicCommonSearchServices/DisplayDCTMContent?documentId=090000168045bb52 ) and English at a C2. I think anyone who speaks Spanish and English at a B2 will be entirely comfortable with this, but even if it’s a bit outside your range, it’s absolutely worth a shot!
What I didn't like
.
My overall impression
Powerful show about Latino family life with exceptional singing and just a dash of magical realism. The costuming and dancing are amazing; the dialogue felt a bit under-rehearsed but this is ultimately the kind of timeless classic where it doesn’t really matter. Those songs and choreography are going to stick with me for a long time! If you’re looking for a primarily Spanish-language musical at the Fringe, this is the one for you!
