Powerful show about Latino family life with exceptional singing and just a dash of magical realism. The costuming and dancing are amazing; the dialogue felt a bit under-rehearsed but this is ultimately the kind of timeless classic where it doesn't really matter. CUARTO DORADO is a must-see performance. This story brings to life the trials and tribulations of each individual that frequents this dive-bar, those that work there, and brings to light the challenges of owning this incredible establishment. The music will have you clapping, singing- along, and dancing in the aisles. You will find yourself laughing, crying, and cheering all while this storyline tugs at your empathetic heartstrings. The show doesn’t pretend to be anything. From the start we are told this is a typical story. The charm of the show doesn’t come from the story though, but from the way the actors made a typical story be retold from a Latino perspective through some fun and original musical numbers. Rather than being discouraged from performing in a small space, the actors take advantage of the space to create an interactive experience with the audience. My favorite part was when the Taxman shows up. Rather than being the stereotypical intimidating man who demands the money, we realize that he is not the villain. Instead, the true villain is revealed to be the generational trauma that many Latina women have endured from machismo. ... full review

This show centered Latine voices with that audience in mind. It used Spanish music and dialogue unapologetically without providing translations which spoke volumes about who this play is for-- welcoming in Latines far and wide to experience their culture, their language, and their story. If you don't speak Spanish, there will be lyrics, jokes, and nuances missed and that's ok! It's good to step into the Cuarto Dorado and experience it anyway as a guest.... full review
